Roots & Reach

Roots & Reach is BDAOC's mobile dental care initiative, bringing care directly to communities in Edmonton and across Alberta to close the geographic and economic gaps that keep people from getting the dental care they need.

Our vehicle has been purchased, and we're now working on the next phase: building out the interior as a fully equipped dental operatory, with sterilization, connectivity, and exterior branding.

The purchase of our Roots & Reach Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van was made possible by the Africa Centre, through funding from the Government of Canada's Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative.

Youth Violence Conflict Resolution Seminars

BDAOC partners with the Youth Violence and Conflict Resolution Seminar (YVCRS), an initiative dedicated to empowering and inspiring today's youth to become catalysts for positive change in their communities.

The seminars address the critical issues of youth violence and conflict, fostering empathy, communication, and leadership skills that help young people navigate challenges peacefully. They create safe spaces where youth can engage in open dialogue, share their experiences, and develop strategies for conflict resolution and violence prevention. The program is founded on the principles of applying God's laws, statutes, and commandments, and on the belief that every young person has the potential to become an agent of peace.

Vision

Through mentorship, education, and community engagement, YVCRS works to break the cycle of violence, reduce conflict, and cultivate a generation of resilient, empathetic, and socially responsible youth, giving young people the tools, resources, and support to embrace conflict resolution as a means to promote justice, equality, and harmony.

Impact

YVCRS brings solutions to areas facing violence and has received praise from mayors, politicians, police officers, district attorneys, college professors, and local teachers and coaches. Seminars have been held throughout the US and the Caribbean, and now here in Alberta, with numerous requests to return for quarterly and annual sessions.
